I think most people agree the current “best” treatment is a cocktail of antiviral drugs known as Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART).

As for what African AIDS victims need the most, that’s a tougher question. The easy answer would simply be better access to the available drugs. A more complicated answer would involve massive education programs about treatment and prevention.

the best treatments are found in Singapore. the united states is super controversial about AIDS treatment. the people in Africa need to raise awareness… have access to condoms, and know their risks. i think if they know what is out their and know the facts, they will be more prepared. also i heard they use plastic wrap? i think condoms should be more distributed :(

To be very blunt – they need caring people to help them with their daily lives.

Of course the little things like HIV meds would be very nice. But, in Africa you have grandmothers hoping they’ll live to be old enough taking care of their grandchildren, because the parents have died from causes related to HIV/AIDS.

Food, clothing, shelter, safety all come in a close second. In many countries young women can’t go out at night for fear of rape gangs. And, the gangs are often members of that country’s “military” or ruling local tribe.

Forget niceties like transportation, books, and computers. In many places the people would be happy for a single meal and fresh water daily.
